Create interesting details in your home

IIf you are looking for creative interior decoration ideas, you will appreciate the dual function of a painted wall as a memo or notice board.

Magnetic surface

Magnetic is suitable for concrete, filler, plasterboard, and chipboard surfaces. Magnetic can be finished 1-2 times with Tikkurila’s waterborne interior finishing paint for walls, if another color is preferred on the surface than gray. Thick topcoat layers reduce the adhesion of magnets.

Description
Waterborne special paint for use in dry interior surfaces. Because of special properties of the paint magnets adhere to surfaces painted with Magnetic. Strong magnets take the best hold of the surface.

APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions
The surface to be painted must be dry and the temperature at least +10 °C. The temperature of the air must be at least +5 °C and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %.
Preparation
Unpainted surfaces:
Clean dust, dirt and loose material from the surface. Fill holes and cracks with a suitable Presto filler, if necessary. Prime unpainted surfaces with e.g. Varma Primer.
Previously painted surfaces:
Wash down previously painted surfaces with diluted Cleaning Agent (Maalipesu) and rinse carefully with water. Sand glossy surfaces matt with sandpaper to assure best possible adhesion. Remove sanding dust.
Painting
Before use stir Magnetic until smooth (even several minutes) and occasionally during use. Paint three times using plenty of Magnetic paint and short-napped roller or brush. Aim to as smooth surface as possible. Magnets stick best to smooth substrate. You can also apply Magnetic with a roller and smooth it immediately with a steel trowel to achieve a very smooth surface. Let the painted surface dry 24 hours between the coats. Use approx. one litre of paint for approx. 1.5 m² surface in three coats. This amount will guarantee the magnetic effect. If wanted, finishing can be done after 24 hours with Tikkurila waterborne interior paint.
Cleaning of tools
Remove excess paint and clean the tools with water. Washbowl has to be washed carefully, because the iron that the paint contains can dye.
Maintenance instructions
Earliest after 1 month from painting.
Clean the surfaces rather as dry cleaning using vacuum cleaner, smooth brush or duster. Using damp cleaning cloth can leave a trace on the surface. After the finishing the surface should be treated carefully for a couple of weeks, because the paint attains its final hardness and durability in normal conditions after abt. 1 month. If the surfaces have to be cleaned soon after the finishing, clean the surface rather as dry cleaning using a vacuum cleaner, smooth brush or duster.

Instructions

Consumption varies depending on the surface to be treated and its condition. Absorption is affected e.g. by the surface roughness, moisture content level of timber and porosity. For example, log surface that has been untreated for a long time takes a lot more wood finish than a new surface to be treated.

When calculating the consumption, note that the consumption for round logs is 1.5 times higher than normal. Please also note the corner joints in the surface area.

Rounding up

As the filling rate is usually 90% (space for tinting), it is good to round up the liter amounts and reserve enough of the product so that the work is not interrupted unnecessarily, and colour will be even.
