Rough coating with good coverage

This distinguished-looking rough coating provides good coverage and is especially designed for new rendered block and concrete surfaces. Yki Rouhepinnoite (Rough coating) prevents moisture from penetrating into the structure and is water vapor permeable.

Saves costs

The product is ready to use for coating without any dusty and difficult work stages. The texture of the coating hides small imperfections. Do it yourself easily and save costs – just spread the coating with a steel spatula and smooth the surface with a Tikkurila plastic trowel.

Wide range of colours

Yki Rouhepinnoite (Rough Coating) can be tinted to an exceptionally wide range of colours. The colour can be selected from all of TIkkurila’s Wooden Facades, Masonry Facades and Facades colour cards.

Application method
Trowel; for spray application, use plaster pump, min. nozzle size 5 mm or funnel sprayer. Coating applied with trowel is finished with Tikkurila plastic float. Sprayed coating can be left as such or finished with Tikkurila plastic float.

Weather resistance
Good, also in maritime and industrial climate. Prevents penetration of rain and splashes into the construction and at the same time, allows passage of water from inside as vapour. Reduces the migration of salts to the surface.

Density
approx. 1.8 - 1.9 kg/l, ISO 2811
Storage
Protect from frost. Temperature of the product or can may not exceed +35 °C. Not to be stored in sunlight even under a cover. A tinted coating or a coating in a poorly closed or incomplete can does not sustain long-term storage.

APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions
The surface to be treated must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +5˚C and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %. Do not apply paint under strong sunlight.
Preparation
The substrate has to be solid enough, dry and hard before finishing.
Unpainted surface:
Remove dirt, dust and salts from unpainted surfaces. Wash down mouldy or moss-covered surfaces with Homeenpoisto Mould Removal according to the instructions. Smooth and glass-like concrete surfaces have to be mechanically processed to create sufficient texture and to remove cement paste. Level block surfaces and uneven concrete surfaces with Yki Värilaasti, Tintable Render for Socles or Yki Levelling Mortar according to instructions.
Previously painted surface:
Remove dirt, dust and salts. Wash down mouldy or moss-covered etc. surfaces with Homeenpoisto Mould Removal according to the instructions. Remove flaking, poorly attached paint coats. Choose the removal method according to the strength of the substrate and the type of paint to be removed (e.g. steel brushing, high pressure washing with hot water or water-sand-washing).
Necessary leveling will be made with Yki Värilaasti, Tintable Render for Socles or Yki Levelling Mortar according to the instructions of the product data sheet.
Priming
The substrate is recommended to be primed with Tikkurila Silicone Primer to avoid the breakthrough of e.g. salts.
Coating

Mix Yki Rough coating carefully before use. Yki Rough coating can be thinned with water max. 1 %, if needed.

Application by steel trowel

Apply by steel trowel a coat as thick as the grain size at a time to an area of approx.1 m². Grind the surface immediately (max. after 15 min.) by pressing lightly with Tikkurila plastic float. If the float does not move lightly, there is too much of coating. Remove the excess coating with a steel trowel. Adjust limits of pauses and borders of various cans to an unobtrusive spot.

Application by spraying e.g. with a plaster pump or a funnel sprayer

Apply by spraying from approx. 1 m distance in a circular motion upright with the surface. Uniform surfaces are sprayed without interruption. Sprayed surface can be left as such or it can be grinded with a Tikkurila plastic float (see application with a steel trowel). The grinding work is started immediately (max. after 15 min) after spraying by pressing lightly with Tikkurila plastic float.

Note!

If different batches are used, coat the boundary with a solution of 1 part of old batch and 1 part of new batch.  Adjust limits of pauses and borders of various cans to an unobtrusive spot.

Protect windows before priming and coating. Clean possible splashes immediately from the windows.

Yki Rough Coating is not suitable for coating of horizontal surfaces of e.g. cold retaining walls or other similar horizontal surfaces.

Cleaning of tools
Clean tools with water immediately after use. To remove hardened paint, Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tikkurila Tool Cleaner) is recommended.
Maintenance instructions
Dirty surface can be pressure cleaned carefully without detergent after one month from treatment at the earliest. Cleaning might leave an imprint, thus the washing area must be lined unnoticeably according to the lines of the structure. Loose dry dirt is recommended to remove lightly with a soft brush without rubbing.

Homeenpoisto Mould Removal and thorough rinsing can be used for the removal of alga and mould according to the instructions. NOTE! After mould removal the surface always requires a new treatment.
Maintenance treatment
Yki Paint for Socles is suitable for maintenance painting. Kivisil Façade Paint or Yki Rough Coating applied by spray are suitable for façade maintenance painting (see Pretreatment, Priming and Coating.
