Entering a room awash in blue-green hues are instantly calming, which is no surprise considering these colours reflect those of the ocean. Think contemporary teals, peacock blues, jade and seafoam greens that fold into moodier greys; these impressive tones can transform any interior space they touch. Inspiring tranquillity while making a sophisticated statement, you really can't go wrong with these versatile paint colours.
Before you embark on a renovation project, think about the personal touches you would like to highlight in your chosen design direction and how wall colour can complement or enhance these pieces. The easiest way to understand your desired shade's full impact is to take a tester and try it out at different times of the day to see how the results are affected by natural and artificial light. For this project, we chose the crisp sea kale tones of N494 Nephrite, mixed with the sumptuous matt finish of Optiva Matt 5, to refresh the living room walls. Even in a small living space, adopting the N494 Nephrite shade can create an intimate and snug atmosphere while adding depth and contrast.
For a touch of glamour, decorative trims were added to plant pots while a traditional floor lamp was given a contemporary spin with the semi-gloss Taika Pearl Glaze paint. The shimmering pearlescent effect of lustrous gold and copper adds warmth when paired back with the living room's soothing green tones. Although these glossy accents are gentle on the eye, they act as a pleasant surprise and help create a sophisticated yet inviting environment.
1. FIRST STEPS
Begin by wiping the surface of the wall clean. If the surface requires a deeper clean, use Tikkurila Maalipesu cleaning agent to remove unwanted dirt and leave to dry. Lay down dust sheets to protect the floorspace and cover mouldings and sockets with masking tape.
If the wall surface needs to be levelled or the previous paint is a darker colour, apply a coat of Optiva Primer. Choose Optiva Primer in the shade close to your new topcoat.
Stir the Optiva Matt 5 interior paint and apply two coats using a paint roller with an extension pole. Optiva Matt 5 can be recoated within a minimum of 4 hours of painting or may take longer depending on a low temperature or in conditions of increased humidity.
Painting the floor lamp with Taika paint
Begin by cleaning the surface of the furniture or objects you intend to paint.
Apply 1-2 coats of the semi-gloss Taika Pearl Glaze, pre-mixed with your chosen colour. As Taika Pearl Glaze is transparent, the primer's colouring will have a critical effect on the final look. Recommended base coat colours for Taika Pearl Glaze can be found from the Taika colour card. Taika Pearl Glaze reaches its absolute durability in approx. 1 month, so avoid cleaning your chosen surface during that time.
