Opulent gold, stylish rose gold, or cool silver - incorporating pearlescent and metallic paint finishes into your interior can add a touch of luxury to your home, offering a one-of-a-kind finish.
Metallic paints have a unique way of bringing light and depth to interior spaces, whether you use them as an all-over statement or as accent elements. Silver-based hues create a bright, shimmering effect, while gold-based colours create warmth and drama. These metallic highlights can be used in any room of the house, including the bedrooms, kitchens, and dining rooms.
Achieve a touch of glamour with the Tikkurila Taika product range. The range, which literally translates into English as "magic," comes in two varieties: in the form of paint for a high opacity, solid colour statement, or as glazes and lacquers for transparent effects. These water-based solutions can transform even the most ordinary spaces – and with their quick-drying properties, you can make the change in just one day.
Explore the differences in the collection below and discover the ways that metallic paint can elevate your interior.

Looking to add some glitz to your dressing table? Or make an eye-catching design for your child's walls? Perhaps you have an old photo frame that you'd like to spruce up. Taika Peal Paint can be a luxurious addition to your decor.
Because of its high opacity, this product is also popular for stencilling and adding intricate details to traditional cornicing.
Taika Pearl Paint is water-based with low VOCs and has been granted the M1 certification (guaranteeing low emissions). Making it a safe choice for any room in your home.

Wall Application
While this product can be applied to any interior area – when it comes to walls, Taika Pearl Paint works best as a limited effect surface. A great colour vehicle to create a focal point, surround artwork or add pizzazz to a corner.
If the preference is to apply to the whole wall, the painting process requires skill and experience, and a spray application is highly recommended. As such, we would recommend the use of a professional decorator if your aim for the project is to achieve a smooth, flat finish on a large surface area.
However, if a textured effect finish (such as a haze, shimmer, or patination) is desired, this is easily achieved (even by beginners!)
Incorporating painting techniques such as criss-cross brushing, or using different sponges and rollers to leave textured patterns are excellent ways to apply metallic paints to a large wall surface to create a variety of unique finishes. Start by testing out your desired effect on cardboard before moving onto the wall itself.

Taika Pearl Paint Metallic Shades
- For semi-transparent and transparent glitter effects.
- For walls only
- Basecoat required before application
- Finely curated list of shades
The translucent properties of Taika Pearl Glaze and Taika Stardust are ideal for those looking for a more subtle metallic effect, or where a glitter finish is desired to elevate an already loved wall colour.
More subtle than it’s paint counterpart, this semi-transparent and shimmering metallic glaze offers an eye-catching and glittering effect in a softer guise.
Available in 10 colour choices, this pearlescent effect is designed for use on walls only. A special-effect topcoat paint to catch the eye in interior spaces with plenty of natural light and highlight their beauty.
Due to the semi-transparent nature of Taika Pearl Glaze – a partnering base colour is required to achieve the optimal final colour. The shade of this base will have a significant impact on the final look. To help you achieve the richest and most impactful hue, we have corresponding basecoat colour recommendations for each of the Taika Pearl Glaze hues. Order one of our complementary Taika Colour Cards to see these recommendations. Alternatively, Taika Pearl Glaze can be paired with an existing base shade of your choosing to achieve a different effect.
Our top tip? Because Taika Pearl Glaze will highlight rather than conceal surface flaws like filled cracks and holes, the primed surface must be as smooth and even as possible before application. Follow our guide to preparing walls for painting here.
Taika Pearl Glaze Semi-Transparent Shades
Unlike Pearl Paint and Pearl Glaze, Taika Stardust is completely transparent with the exception of the unique speckles of shimmering glitter throughout. It is only available in two glitter choices: gold and silver – and like Pearl Glaze, is for use on walls only. Given the clear nature of this product, a base coating of colour is required.
Unlike Pearl Glaze, there are no specific shades that should be used as the basecoat colour for Taika Stardust. As a result, this product is ideal for adding a special touch to an existing interior design - by applying directly on top of pre-painted walls.
When applied initially, Taika Stardust will apply a thin milky white coating, which will fade to a clear finish once dry.
The effect is accentuated by good spotlights, sidelight, or natural light. A subtle touch of magic for your walls.
