Tikkurila were asked to provide advice for painting Southport pier with a maintenance system suitable for protecting the structure in the harshest of environments.

There were a number of technical issues to address which involved several years of planning ensuring the most appropriate system was chosen which included a number of feasibility studies and trials.

Tikkurila were involved at every stage of the process providing invaluable advice and support throughout the contract.

A high build epoxy/polyurethane paint system specifically formulated for maintenance was chosen based on our Temabond ST200, Temacoat RM40 & Temadur 50 which has an excellent track record in the UK for maintenance of critical steel structures providing a highly durable protective coating solution suitable for aggressive coastal locations. The chosen system is also independently tested and approved for use on Network Rail structures – System M24 (Certificate available on request)

Southport Pier is the second longest pier in the UK measuring just over 1,000 metres long. It is Grade II listed and one of the oldest iron piers in the country, standing for over 150 years.
