ClimateCooler: Energy-efficient treatment for roofs
Everywhere in the world, environmental standards are becoming more stringent. Even though energy-neutral buildings are being built, the current building stock still accounts for 40% of global CO2 emissions. Cool roofs are said to be one of the easiest and least expensive ways to minimise energy consumption.
We must reduce our carbon emissions and begin the difficult task of slowing climate change. Tikkurila now has a smart roof coating that reflects solar radiation back into space. Intelligent roofing eliminates the need for air conditioning, which benefits both the atmosphere and the indoor climate of buildings while also saving money on energy bills.
It normally takes years for energy-saving technologies to start paying off, but the Tikkurila ClimateCooler works right away. Since the investment is small in terms of both time and resources, the new roof-coating system's energy-saving properties are easily translated into real savings. Infrared radiation makes up the bulk of solar heat radiation (IR). When opposed to a traditional black bitumen roof, ClimateCooler reflects up to 80% of the sun's IR radiation. The amount of reflection varies depending on the painting scheme, coating colour, and the type of roof and roofing material.
Exclusive Product Range
Tikkurila ClimateCooler is a solar-reflective roof covering made of water. Using this coating is a smart way to control building energy use and save money – as well as the environment. The Tikkurila ClimateCooler roof-coating device has been shown by internationally recognised laboratories to have a reported impact. The so called "Cool Roof Paint" is based on a technology, that allows solar heat radiation to be reflected off the surface. The roof's overall efficiency, service life, and functionality have all improved significantly. ClimateCooler-treated roofs have a lower temperature, so it takes less energy to cool the air entering the building's air conditioning system. Treatment with ClimateCooler decreases the need for cooling, resulting in cost savings.
ClimateCooler is a "Cooling Roof Paint" with properties that allow it to reflect up to 80% of the sun's rays.
The cost of cooling down a building is greatly reduced.
Since it is not subjected to intense temperatures, the roof surface can last longer.
ClimateCooler treatment is also good for the atmosphere. There will be more savings and less CO2 generated if you don't use air conditioning.
Uni and Flex - The Two Product Families of ClimateCooler:
Both Uni and Flex provide the same advantages in terms of reflecting solar radiation and come in the same colours: black, light grey, dark brown, tile red, white, and anthracite.
The biggest between the two products is in their specified areas of application:
UNI products have a matt finish and are suitable for most popular roof styles, including concrete roof tiles, fiber-cement sheets, and primed steel sheet roofs.
FLEX products also have a matt finish, but they are more suited to treating degraded roofs and flat roofs. This is due to the Flex products' increased elasticity, which was specifically designed for difficult surfaces.
The properties of Tikkurila ClimateCooler Catalyst products are identical to those of ClimateCooler products. They are also ideal for the same applications, but they have one distinct advantage: thanks to a catalytic mechanism, they are capable of decomposing dangerous NOx compounds, such as exhaust gases, into harmless NO3 compounds (salts). For the time being, the colour palette is restricted to white. The ClimateCooler Catalyst coating was included in the 2015 edition of “Sustainia100,” an annual guide to 100 innovative solutions from around the world (www.sustainia.me/solutions). The ClimateCooler Catalyst coating has been named one of the top 100 sustainable solutions in the world, and has been placed at the forefront of sustainable innovation in the guide's Building market.
After a heavy storm, flat roofs appear to accumulate small pools of water. This can lead to irreversible damage over time. Tikkurila now has items designed especially for circumstances like this. The solvent-borne ClimateCooler Hypercoat family of products from Tikkurila is designed for flat bitumen felt and concrete roofs with ponding water.
The Hypercoat devices, like the other ClimateCooler products, minimise the surface temperature of the roof by reflecting 80% of solar radiation back into space. Furthermore, under ideal conditions, the ClimateCooler Hypercoat coating forms a water-proof and flexible membrane that can withstand rain as quickly as 45 minutes after application. HyperCoat can also be used on surfaces with a high residual moisture level.
