Designing a contemporary bedroom for the youngest household members is all about making the space a cool section of the home they want to hang out in. But when your kid is growing into their teenage years, you may be thinking it might be time to switch up their bedroom design. The most popular (and easy) way to modernise these spaces is through paint. Whether they want their rooms to rock a monochromatic palette, all neutrals or to pack a punch, utilising colour can refresh a bedroom that will grow with them.
For a Scandinavian spin, we gravitated towards a fresh watery blue to brighten the tired walls of a pre-teen’s bedroom. The paint colour X438 Secret from our Feel the Colour 2020 collection adds a playful touch to the room and is complemented through the use of darker furnishings in dark navy, steel grey, and royal blue. Find more blue shades here. For this project, we tinted X438 Secret with Optiva Matt 5 as the luxurious paint mixture adds a richness to light and subtle shades that creates a beautiful effect of velvet to wall surfaces.
Mixed with the sumptuous matt finish of Optiva Matt 5 wall paint, the final results offer a beautiful, smooth finish that is hard-wearing for the home due to its high resistance to stains and dirt. Optiva Matt 5 is VOC free and holds the EU Ecolabel certificate, awarded to products safe for health and the environment – making it a proven finish for children’s bedrooms.
Test a Colour Out
Putting the idea into practice
1. FIRST STEPS
2. PRETREATMENT
Lay down dust sheets to protect the floorspace and cover mouldings and sockets with masking tape. If the wall surface needs to be levelled or the previous paint is a darker colour, apply a coat of Optiva Primer. Choose Optiva Primer in the shade close to your new topcoat.
3. PAINTING
Stir the Optiva Matt 5 interior paint and apply two coats using a paint roller with an extension pole. Optiva Matt 5 can be recoated within a minimum of 4 hours of painting or may take longer depending on a low temperature or in conditions of increased humidity.
