Product Description

High performance, acrylic, semi-gloss with mould and anti-microbial inhibitors designed to provide incredibly hard wearing film suitable for repeated cleaning with hospital grade detergents.

Luja forms a moisture impervious film and has been designed for use in high humidity environments such as food preparation facilities, swimming pools and distilleries.

Suitable for new and previously painted walls and ceilings in hospitals and other very high traffic environments. Luja has London Underground approval for sub-surface areas.

Tinted and special-order paint can't be returned (unless faulty)
Non-tinted/white products and sundries can be returned if unused, in original condition within 14 days of delivery.

How Do I Paint My Bathroom Walls?

Painting bathroom walls and ensuring a long-lasting, stain-free finish is simple and effective however proper preparation, application, and curing is essential. There are two main paint options available to Tikkurila customers wishing to refresh bathroom walls. Our standard trade option is Optiva 5. This product will provide a wipeable surface and is suitable for bathrooms and other similar environments where good ventilation is installed and high levels of prolonged moisture exposure will not be expected. Luja is our high-performance system and is suitable for environments where ventilation is a problem and high levels of constant humidity and moisture are present e.g. swimming pools, wet rooms and surfaces where mould propagation are an issue.

Wash down all surfaces with an appropriate cleaning agent. If the surface is mouldy wash down with Tikkurila Mould Removal solution
The surface to be painted must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +5 ºC, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %.
Remove dirt and dust from the unpainted surfaces. If necessary, fill holes and cracks with suitable Tikkurila Presto filler (for walls) or Tikkurila Spakkeli filler (for wood).
Sand the filler and remove sanding dust. Stir Luja finishing paint well before use. Apply two finishing coats by brush, roller or spray.

Wash down previously painted surfaces and let them dry. Remove any loose, flaking paint with a scraper, sand hard, glossy surfaces to a matt finish and remove sanding dust. Fill holes and cracks with a suitable filler. Sand the filler and remove sanding dust. Prime if necessary.

Option 1 (Good ventilation, low moisture expected)

Prime with one coat of Optiva Primer
Topcoat x 2 with Optiva 3, Optiva 5, Optiva 7, Optiva 20 or Optiva White, depending on sheen level required

Option 2 (High-performance system for high humidity areas)

Prime with one coat of Luja Universal Primer
Topcoat x 2 with Luja 7, Luja 20 or Luja 40, depending on the sheen level required

Is Luja suitable for a bathroom with no window?

What does Class 1 scrub rating mean?

The scrub resistance evaluates the resistance of the coating to repeated cleaning and is measured by the following
method under the Class 1 ISO 11998 Test.

A predetermined wet film thickness of the paint is applied to the test substrate and allowed to dry for 28 days. The test panels are placed on the scrub testing machine and subjected to 200/40 scrub cycles (depending on paint type). After testing, the amount of paint that has been lost from the surface is calculated and expressed as a film thickness loss in micrometers. A Class 1 scrub rating indicates a loss of paint film of less than 5 microns after 200 scrubs.

Using a Class 1 rated product means the painted walls can be easily cleaned with warm, soapy water. More stubborn stains can also be tackled with standard household cleaner*, returning the surface to its original, premium matt finish.
