How do I create a textured wall finish with Taika Pearl Paint?

Taika Pearl Paint can be applied with a variety of different painting techniques to leave textured patterns on large surface areas like walls. These methods include crisscross brushing or using different sponges and rollers.

Guided steps to achieving the best results when painting an effect wall with Taika Pearl Paint are as follows. (Top top: we recommend that you begin by testing your desired effect on cardboard before moving on to the actual wall!)

Make sure your wall is clean, dry, and free of rust, dirt, grease, and wax.
Prime the wall(s) with a durable matt coating, such as Optiva Nature Matt 5. (To get the best effect from your Pearl Paint on walls, we recommend using a white or off-white shade for this base coat).
Allow primer coat to fully dry.
Open and stir Taika Pearl Paint (don't shake this one!)
Begin by using a brush to apply to the edges of the wall.
Next, load the paint onto a roller and apply it to the main wall surface, painting in a relaxed and almost random pattern with light, even pressure.
Take the roller as close to the edge as possible to cover the brush marks.
Allow to dry before applying your second coat.
Again, use a roller to apply the second coat, working in small sections in the same relaxed manner.
Drag a brush in a random pattern while the paint is still wet.
Make sure to overlap brushed areas to achieve an even effect. It is not advisable to roll alone. This application method will not produce a smooth, flat finish; therefore, the key is to exaggerate this with your brush to emphasise the textured and visually interesting finish.

If instead of a textured wall effect, you are hopping to achieve a smooth even coating on a large wall area, spray application is highly recommended. As such, we would recommend the use of a professional decorator as the process requires skill and experience.
