This case study documents the professional kitchen cabinet decorating job executed by Paul C. Barber Decorations. The project involved a detailed and efficient approach to building and painting kitchen cabinets. The result is a high-quality finish that not only enhances the aesthetics of the kitchen but also ensures durability and resistance to wear and tear.
Preparation and Priming
The MDF cabinets were first thoroughly cleaned. This step was crucial to remove any residues that could hinder the adhesion of the top coat.
Following cleaning, the cabinets were sanded, not only to smooth the surface but also to help in creating a suitable base for the primer to adhere.
After sanding, the surfaces were sealed with a high-quality wood filler. This ensured that any imperfections or grain inconsistencies in the MDF were addressed, resulting in a smooth and even surface.
After preparation was complete, a base of Otex Adhesion Primer was applied. This primer is a high-adhesive, solvent-based primer designed with tricky surfaces in mind, making it an ideal base for the top coat. It also aids in enhancing the durability of the topcoat.
Painting
The final stage was the application of a Helmi 30 top coat. Helmi 30 is renowned for its hard-wearing properties, curing to form a tough film that can be cleaned and washed, perfect for this cabinetry. The top coat was colour-matched to meet the client’s specific brief, ensuring that the final result aligned with their vision.
