Matt green chest of drawers

Based in Redditch, Liz Clarkson has turned her passion for interior design into transforming vintage furniture into showstopping statement pieces. In this article, we explore Liz's restoration and refinishing process to bring two midcentury drawers back to life.

Before and After

a set of midcentury chests of drawers

Preparation & Priming

Restoration begins with meticulous preparation to ensure these pieces withstand the test of time.

Each dresser wass thoroughly cleaned and stripped back to bare wood before sanding. A tinted Helmi Primer was then applied to match the final colour and provide a smooth surface for it to cling to.

Painting

With both chests of drawers prepped, it was time to bring them back to life with the top coat. Helmi 30 was tinted using Tikkurila's Colour Matching Service to meet the customer's specific colour request. This high-performance furniture paint covered the bare wood in a semi-matt finish which along with the tint, exceeded the client's expectations.
