What makes paints and coatings toy and nursery safe?
The CE Mark signifies products sold in the EEA have been assessed to meet high safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.
The same set of criteria used to determine whether a paint or coating can display and M1 classification, the product must contain trace levels of any chemical or compound so as not to cause harm if ingested or inhaled but with a particular reference to Toys. Tikkurila's Helmi furniture paint has undergone testing to ensure it meets the requirement of EN 71-3:2019 Safety of Toys Mitigation of certain chemicals. Helmi also holds the M1 classification for indoor air quality.
We have not tested our other wall and emulsion paints because we do not expect these to be used on toys only walls and large surfaces, however as per the M1 classification there are no raw materials used in our M1 classified products which would pose an acute toxicity risk in these environments.
