Valtti Wood Oil wood oil provides weather protection and colour for new and previously oiled wooden furniture, decking, weatherboard and cladding.

Valtti Wood Oil is suitable for impregnated hardwoods, Wood Oil is easy to apply by brush and available in a wide range of wood stain colours.

We recommend to use a tinted product, which provides better weather resistance than a colourless product.

Looking for a UV oil for cedar wood lining .

While cedar can be painted, it is not recommended unless it is extremely weathered as it requires heavy preparation and is still prone to failure. It is a highly acidic oily hardwood and is so naturally durable it prevents proper adhesion of paint and wood stain products. In addition, if cedar is new and un-weathered resin bleeding will be an issue.

If there is still a requirement to paint, we recommend using a non-filming forming coating like Valtti Color

Ensure the surface is degreased thoroughly first with Tikkurila cleaning agent. Ensure you use a white rag and keep degreasing until no residues are present on cloth
Also ensure the surface is degreased with cellulose thinner to remove the surface oils.

To maximise UV protection this product must be tinted, as a general rule darker the better.

How Do I Paint Exterior Decking?

Painting or staining decking is a very common DIY task but one which can cause significant problems and ongoing maintenance issues if not done correctly. It must be noted when applying any paint or stain to decking that the slip resistance of the timber will change. In addition the traffic the deck receives has a direct impact on the longevity of the coating.

Wash down all timber thoroughly, treat mould and algae with Tikkurila mould removal solution and rinse with clean water

Apply two coats of Tikkurila's decking oil:
- Valtti Plus Terrace Oil (water-based)
- Valtti Furniture and Decking Oil (solvent-based)

Apply two coats of Tikkurila's wood oil:
- Valtti Wood Oil Plus (water-based)
- Valtti Wood Oil (solvent-based)

The main difference in the 2 ranges noted above are the colours available. Tikkurila's decking oils are available in ready-made shades, while Valtti Wood Oils are available in a much wider range.

It should be noted that maintenance intervals on decking are expected to be between 1 and 2 years.
