Which white shade will look best in my bedroom? Does this colour go with my sofa? If these questions sound familiar, you may have found yourself in a colour dilemma.
Finding the right paint shade for your walls can be more challenging than expected. How can you make a decision when there are so many options? The magic of colour is undeniable. It can brighten a dark room - or soften and reduce glare in a bright space. It has the ability to warm a chilly north-facing room or to come to life in the evening light.
While a little colour theory can go a long way, we at Tikkurila believe that the most important place to start is by selecting paint colours that you truly love, and the perfect scheme will follow.
And if you’re still looking for a bit of guidance, we’re here to help! Follow on as we break five of our most commonly answered colour questions to steer you in the right direction.
Neutral colours are extremely versatile but it’s important to pay attention to their undertones when selecting your paint colour.
Cool-toned neutrals have green, grey or brown undertones and work best when paired with other cool-toned colours and steel accessories. Warm neutrals often have yellow or red undertones and work well when paired with rich tones and wooden finishes. Browse our edit of neutral shades below to help you find the neutral with the right undertone for your interiors.

How to pick colours for two-tone walls
How to pick colours for two-tone walls
The easiest way to find two colours that will work together effortlessly is to select one light and one dark shade from the same paint sample strip or vertical row on a colour card. Ideally, the two colours should belong to the same colour family and be a few tones lighter or darker to create the perfect contrast.
Top tip: Consider the colour of your furniture when deciding on the placement of each shade. If your furniture is dark, paint the darker shade on the top half of the wall, so that the colours don’t blend together. If the furniture is light, paint your lighter shade on the top half of the wall instead.

Can I paint a small room a dark colour?
Can I paint a small room a dark colour?
Yes, you can! It is a common belief that dark colours make small spaces feel even smaller, but we have a trick for creating an illusion of a larger space with paint. Simply apply your dark colour the trim to accentuate the height of the walls.
Top tip: Minimise contrast by matching the colour of your furniture to the wall colour. This will help the furniture to recede into the room creating a monochromatic, harmonious space.

Which tone of pink for adult spaces?
To suit grown-up tastes, skip the classic bright pinks such as candyfloss or bubble gum. Instead, opt for softer pink hues with grey or beige undertones.
Muted shades like mauve and rose add elegance and character to the space without feeling too overpowering. These alluring pinks also make a great substitute to traditional neutral shades like beige, adding just a hint of colour for a modern spin to interior decor.
