In this article, we explore their recent project: the meticulous painting process of a 150-year-old oak door, with the goal of preserving the door's historical charm while giving it a fresh and stylish look. Now, this, is what we call a welcome…
Before and after

Preparation & Priming
Before embarking on the transformation of the 150-year-old oak door, thorough preparation was essential to ensure a great end result.
The team used a machine sander, wire wool, and sandpaper to carefully strip off layers of old varnish, exposing the raw wood underneath. To tackle stubborn areas, a hot air gun was used to gently remove the remaining varnish residue. The outcome of this project also relied on the use of trusted quality sundries such as Mirka and Sia abrasives to achieve a smooth and even surface.
Additionally, Toupret filler was used to fill in any imperfections, ensuring a seamless finish. For the bare, brittle, and weathered exterior wood, Oljypohja Primer was chosen due to the dryness of the timber. This primer provided the necessary nourishment and protection, creating an ideal foundation for the subsequent painting stage.
Painting
Once the preparation was complete, it was time for the topcoat application. The team opted for our much-loved Miranol, an ultra-high gloss paint (+80% sheen), specifically formulated for exterior doors, windows, and furniture. Renowned for its durability and impact resistance, Miranol was the perfect choice to ensure the door would withstand the test of time.
To meet the customer's specific colour preference, the team utilised Tikkurila's colour-matching service. The shade was then tinted into the Miranol paint, resulting in a custom colour that perfectly aligned with the customer's vision.
