Step into the world of historic preservation, where we explore the art of preparing and painting Grade 2 Listed timber front doors. We'll take you through every step of the process, from careful preparation to selecting just the right colour - all expertly carried out by the professional decorators at Powpad. It's a blend of old and new, as we protect and honour the beauty of our architectural history.

The prep began with the removal of loose mouldings, which were then securely reattached using a wood repair compound to ensure their stability. Any joints and areas affected by rot were addressed, restoring the door's structural integrity.
A thorough sanding was carried out to create a smooth and even surface. To ensure a pristine canvas for the paint, the door was fine-sanded and thoroughly cleaned using Maalipesu Cleaning Agent to remove any dust, dirt, and grease.
Finally, the door was undercoated with the highly adhesive Otex Adhesion Primer followed by a coat of Ultra Primer, creating a solid foundation for the topcoat as well as providing protection for its historical charm.

The client had a very specific sheen and colour in mind, so the Powpad team provided several sample boards of different products and paint finishes to find the one that matched the client's vision perfectly.
The colour was chosen by the client from the Feel the Colour Fan Deck, which showcases Tikkurila's core colour range of 216 shades. They opted for a vibrant olive green, Sepal L447, mixed into Tikkurila's Ultra Classic polyacrylate opaque wood paint to achieve a traditional satin finish.
Ultra Classic has excellent weather resistance and will help preserve this Grade 2 Listed timber against UV rays as well as harsh weather conditions.
