Outdated Kitchen Makeover

The kitchen cabinets, once welcoming and lively, had lost their charm over the years, and their outdated colour no longer aligned with the homeowner's decor style. It was time to give the cabinets a modern uplift. In this article, we'll take you through the full renovation process, skillfully completed by RM Decor Solutions.

Before and after

Preparation

The journey of renewing kitchen cabinets begins with preparation. RM Decor Solutions started by washing down the cabinet surfaces with sugar soap. This crucial step removed grease, dirt, and grime, ensuring a clean canvas for the upcoming transformation.

To prepare the cabinets for painting, the team removed cabinet knobs, handles, and other hardware and set them aside.

A thorough cleaning was conducted to eliminate any remaining contaminants. A mixture of water and mild dish soap was used for this task. After cleaning, the cabinets were left to dry completely. Next, medium-grit sandpaper was used to lightly sand the cabinet surfaces. This step enhances the adhesion of primer and paint.

After sanding, the dust was wiped away with a tack cloth.

Painting

A coat of primer was applied to all cabinet surfaces. RM Decor Solutions opted for Otex Adhesion Primer to ensure optimal paint adhesion. After the primer dried, fine-grit sandpaper was used to lightly sand the surfaces. This step ensures a smooth finish. The dust was again wiped away with a tack cloth.

The painting process began with the application of the first coat of Helmi 30 paint, to achieve a highly durable, eggshell finish. Starting with the cabinet frames, the team then moved on to the doors and drawer fronts. Each coat was allowed to dry fully.

After the first coat dried completely, the surfaces were lightly sanded again with fine-grit sandpaper. A second coat of paint was then applied. Once the final coat of paint dried, the cabinet hardware was reattached. With care, the cabinet doors and drawer fronts were reattached, ensuring proper alignment.
