Their dedication to detail, from repairing and priming to their choice of top-quality Tikkurila paint products, resulted in a living room that's not only visually stunning but also built to withstand the tests of time. Discover how this transformation turned ordinary walls, ceilings, and woodwork into a space with personality and character.

Before and after

Preparation

ReNew Professional Decorating Services started by carefully assessing the state of the living room's walls, ceilings, and woodwork. Even in a freshly plastered room, there can still be areas that need an extra bit of TLC. Any damaged areas of paint on the original period coving were removed, and cracks were raked out, creating a smooth and even surface.

For areas that required rebuilding and filling, surface filler was expertly applied, ensuring a seamless look. The living room was then mist-coated entirely, creating a consistent base. Any necessary patch repairs were conducted with precision, leaving no room for imperfections.

To prepare the woodwork for its new look, sanding was employed to remove old and poor-quality paint. Wood filler was applied as required, ensuring a flawless finish. Additionally, caulk was applied to the joints between the walls, ceiling, and woodwork, providing a polished and professional appearance.

Painting

With the surfaces impeccably prepared, it was time to infuse the living room with beauty and charm. ReNew Professional Decorating Services turned to a selection of Tikkurila paint products to achieve the desired finish.

For the woodwork, Tikkurila Helmi Primer and Tikkurila Helmi 30 were the top choices. The walls and ceilings were painted with the flat matt Tikkurila Optiva 3. The painting process was a multi-step journey that ensured an impeccable result.

Walls and ceilings were first primed with a contract matt paint, diluted by 50% through a spray system to create a flat and consistent base. The ceiling was then coated with three coats of Optiva 3, expertly denibbed between each coat. The walls received three coats applied by a 12-inch roller, with careful cutting-in by brush and laying off with a mini roller. Again, denibbing occurred between coats to achieve a flawless finish.

Finally, the woodwork was coated with precision using a brush, with two coats of primer and two coats of top coat. Between each coat, the surface was flattened with 240-grit sandpaper, leaving behind a highly durable finish on the woodwork.
